I’ve been using rechargeable batteries for over 20 years, and honestly, the savings compared to traditional disposables are massive. Given the massive capacity and convenience it offers, $23.99 feels incredibly fair. It gives you a lot of bang for your buck, and I consider it an excellent value for what you get.
POWEROWL 16-Bay Charger: Design and First Impressions
This charger features a unique, circular design where batteries are inserted all around the perimeter. I actually think its round shape resembles an owl’s eye, which is probably where the name “Powerowl” comes from! Each of the 16 slots is dual-purpose, with clever positioning to fit either a AA or a AAA battery. Right next to each slot, there’s an LED indicator that shows the charging status: red means it’s currently charging, green means it’s ready to go, and a flashing light alerts you that the battery has an error and can’t be charged.
While it’s made of plastic, the build quality feels sturdy and durable. However, it does have one flaw: it lacks a protective cover. If you leave it out on a desk, you’ll be surprised by how much dust it collects in just a few days. Because of this, I usually keep mine in a drawer. When I do forget to put it away, I have to grab a small paintbrush I keep on hand for cleaning and give it a quick brush to clear out the dust.
Another thing to keep in mind is the power cord—it’s quite short for my liking. It measures just 93 cm (36.6 inches), so you’ll definitely need to place it close to a wall outlet or plug it into an extension cord.
POWEROWL 16-Bay Charger: My Hands-On Experience
Despite minor inconveniences like the short power cord and its tendency to collect dust, I am incredibly happy with this charger. Being able to batch-charge up to 16 batteries simultaneously—mixing and matching AA and AAA sizes—has saved me a massive amount of time and effort. My routine now is simple: I collect dead batteries in a box, and once it’s full, I bring out the charger, plug all 16 in at once, and by the next day, they are fully loaded and ready to go.
However, there is one rare exception you should keep in mind. On very seldom occasions, if you leave a completely dead battery sitting around for months, its voltage can drop so low that standard chargers mistake it for a broken battery and refuse to start. This has only happened to me a couple of times, but if it happens to you, there’s an easy workaround: I simply pop the battery into an older charger (like my La Crosse) for just two minutes to jump-start the voltage. After that, I move it back to the POWEROWL, and it charges normally.
Operation-wise, it couldn’t be simpler. All you need to look out for are the LED lights: solid red confirms it’s charging, solid green means it’s fully charged and ready to be removed, and a flashing red light means the battery cannot be charged. That’s literally it.

I absolutely recommend it. I’ve been using it heavily for over 18 months now, and it still performs like it’s brand new, saving me both time and manual labor. It is worth every single penny.
